Shea Howell is a community based activist in Detroit where she has lived for more than four decades. She works with the James and Grace Lee Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership, focusing on visionary organizing. Currently she is working with the Detroit Independent Freedom Schools Movement and on securing water as a human right. She writes a weekly column, Thinking for Ourselves. She is also a member of the Riverwise Collective, publishing a quarterly magazine chronicling grass roots efforts to develop a more just future. She is a professor of political communication at Oakland University.
